VOL18 SOUTH CORS IN DOHA NEW PORT PROJECT

Date: February 26, 2013View: 1246

Doha new port project under construction, aimed at a creation of one of the world's largest greenfield port developments with investment expected to be USD 7.4 billion, is requiring thousands of skilled laborers and considerable technical complexity.

Al Mustafawi Trading & Engineering Co., as exclusive dealer of SOUTH in Qatar and important survey equipments provider for the Port, has equipped Port survey team more than 10 sets of S86T GPS receivers since the project began.
In October of 2012, the survey team raised another claim for two SOUTH CORS to improve RTK work efficiency for whole port area. As usual, an immediate response from SOUTH went to Doha that two engineers reached the site and conducted plenty of analysis and discussions with Port survey team in the very month. Finally both sides came to an agreed CORS scheme for best benefits, which is to build two CORS with radio transmitting function (initial stage), distributing evenly in the site and powered by solar system.

In December, with our dealer, Al Mustafawi company's help, the Port has finished the construction for solar systems, pillars, cabinets and conducted static work for reference points on the pillars.
Following planned schedule, Leo, GPS engineer from SOUTH returned back to Doha for bringing the system into service.

*Desert surroundings in the site always make it difficult to access electricity power and Internet, which are extremely necessary for ordinary CORS. But owe to excellent compatibility with solar system and capability to transmit differential messages (RTCM23, RTCM30, CMR, etc.) with radio, NET S8+ CORS receiver turns a continuously operating system in tough places into reality, similar situations like mine area, grasslands, island, etc.
*In normal circumstances, NET S8+ receiver can transmit both with Internet and radio for the convenience of RTK users and SOUTH has developed a set of highly user-friendly operation manners for the whole system.
After 4 days work for assembling, training and accuracy testing, both two CORS stations get to work with excellent performance.
The tested accuracy matches
Horizontal: 10mm+1ppm RMS
Vertical: 20mm+1ppm RMS
Working range: 20KM mostly
With the CORS
●free workforce for setting base every time
●achieve more than 12 hours of continuous work time in everyday job
●keep itself easy to upgrade to GPRS function for future use
A remarkable increase in work efficiency is gained easily by survey team with SOUTH GPS and customers and dealers are really satisfied with this project finally.
